Disobedience
I have been looking forward to this movie since I first saw the trailer months ago. The story focuses on Ronit, played by Rachel Weisz, who learns that her father has died. She returns home from New York to an insulated Jewish community. She encounters her old friend, Esti, played by Rachel McAdams. The first part of the movie is so slow that I nearly fell asleep, something I rarely do in movies. Once the secret between the two women is revealed (they were once lovers), the story picks up pace for a short time. But then the last third of the movie has many leaps in the story-telling that make it feel disjointed. Weisz is pretty good in her role but I felt like McAdams was woefully miscast. Her accent, for example, is horrible. I so wanted to like this movie but there really wasn’t much to like.
